Keeping the eyes open

The least I can do when my country wages war in Ukraine is to keep the eyes open, despite how badly I want to close them.  I am not an actual witness of the war in Ukraine or repressions in Russia at the moment, but it directly affects my life. I had to leave Russia and I haven’t seen my teenage son for a year and a half. But this cannot come close to the sufferings brought by the war which a part of my family supports. It sounds paradoxical, but in comparison to the depression itself, reasons which caused it at some point become shallow no matter how bad they were. One needs to keep up appearances, but the personality splits, the feelings become so huge that they squeeze the outside air.
