Opening – a hand that is all our hands combined
The opening of the biennial is marked by performances, official ceremonies and a series of conversations with artists and essayists, taking place at Röda Sten Konsthall and Gothenburg City Library on September 20, and at the Skövde Art Museum on September 21.
Curated by Christina Lehnert, the biennial hosts artistic practices that embody a sense of care extending beyond the personal. Thought through and created in close collaboration with the artists, the project bears witness to various forms of silencing and exclusion, and reinforces the need to recognise our dependencies and responsibilities in shaping the present. a hand that is all our hands combined asks how artistic and collaborative practices can promote solidarity in today’s world and uphold freedom of speech for artists and those in marginalised positions.
In connection to the biennial over 90 art organizers in the region of Västra Götaland are presenting exhibitions and programmes on related questions, under the umbrella of GIBCA Extended.
GIBCA is organized by Röda Sten Konsthall in collaboration with The Gothenburg Museum of Art, Göteborgs Konsthall, Gothenburg City Library and Skövde Art Museum.
