Through a Mirror: cellist My Hellgren mirrors Georgia Sagri
Through a Mirror is a series of intimate presentations where one artist mirrors another artist’s work. Each occasion implies a new encounter with an invited poet, musician, dancer, or other artistic practice, who through their own creative understanding mirrors artworks in the biennial exhibition a hand that is all our hands combined.
On Friday, October 31, we have invited My Hellgren. She has decided to mirror Gone, Gone Beyond by Georgia Sagri.
“My improvisation will stem from the concepts that emerged during my encounter with the exhibition/work. I was particularly struck by the abstract form, simultaneously minimalistic and dynamic, evoking the image of a large lung. This symbolism resonates with the notion of breath, which is not only fundamental to musical expression but also a universal force that unites all human beings through the shared medium of air. I intend to investigate how grief can be represented musically and to further develop her conceptualisation of fragmentation and the subsequent reconstruction of the self during periods of psychological collapse.” – My Hellgren
My Hellgren is a trained classical cellist but is employed in many different musical contexts. She plays everything from opera to experimental noise. Hellgren is most active in contemporary art music and is a member of Curious chamber players and GAHLMM. She has participated in several of Man must sing’s chamber operas and is often involved in various innovative projects. Hellgren enjoys collaborating with composers and has premiered solo and ensemble pieces. She also works with improvisation and her own music creation in the borderland between structure and chaos, noise and melodies.
The programme is part of Röda Sten Konsthalls programme serie Konstfredag. Take the opportunity to enjoy an AW and board game at Restaurang Röda Sten.
