Guided tour – Franska Tomten (Packhusplatsen)

The so-called Franska Tomten, or in English “The French lot” is a historical name for the place now called Packhusplatsen. “Franska Tomten” got its name when France gained free trade rights in exchange for the caribbean island St. Barthélemy.

During the tour, we will talk about “Franska Tomten” and its colonial history reflected in the buildings and activities that exist on the site today – the former headquarters of a trans-Atlantic shipping company, a court, a casino, the port and the sea – which connect the past to the present and the City of Gothenburg to other parts of the world.

Franska Tomten is used as the narrative starting point of the biennial. The tour offers you to reflect on the city and site and its relationship to its history and present day.

The introductions and guided tours at Röda Sten Konsthall are included in the admission and the guided tours at Franska Tomten are free. They are all booked through Billetto. We have a limited number of 8 people per introduction/show. Drop-in spots if available.
