Loulou Cherinet (b. 1970, Sweden) lives and works in Stockholm and Addis Ababa. Cherinet works with video installations that stage dialogue and storytelling. Her process uses performance and filmmaking as a tool for probing how abstract notions and state policy appear in bodies, objects, and the behavior of the cities she lives in. Cherinet studied at Addis Ababa University School of Fine Art and Design, Ethiopia and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. She has recently been appointed as Professor of Fine Art at Konstfack, Stockholm. Cherinet has participated in numerous exhibitions such as the biennales in São Paulo, Venice, Bamako, and Sydney, as well as Manifesta 8, Murcia and Momentum 7, Moss. Besides solo shows in Gothenburg, Addis Ababa, Prague, Krakow, Jakarta, and Lüneburg, her work has also toured with major group shows such as Africa Remix and Divine Comedy curated by Simon Njami.
